What is a therapy intensive?

It all begins with an idea.

Would you like to go to therapy, but you just don’t seem to have the time for hourly sessions week by week for some indeterminate period of time?

Consider doing a therapy intensive. Therapy Intensives are just like the name suggests. You can go to a therapist for about 6 hours on Saturday and Sunday, and tada! Progress. While EMDR Intensives have become popular in recent years, therapy intensives have actually been around for a long time. Freedom of Mind’s Steven Hassan for example, does therapy intensives with people who are survivors of cults. For a whole weekend, he will help this person confront what happened to them, and learn to trust themselves and their intuition, something that being in a cult takes away from those it seduces. The Gottman’s, a therapist couple famous for the Gottman method, holds intensive couples therapy retreats to address core issues in an environment free from the distractions of everyday life.

So how do you find a therapy intensive that works for you?

What is the outcome you would like out of therapy? If you had a magic wand, what would be different about you and your life than the way it currently is today? If it’s something about your life, a better relationship, a better job, a better apartment…what do you need to change within your own behavior in order to make that happen?

Then, think about a style that you like in past role models or coaches. Did warmth and empathy feel really motivating? Was a tough more directive style better?

Not every therapist offers intensives, but a simple AI or google search should reveal offerings in your area. You can schedule a consult here with Grounded Healer to see if my approach works for you.

In summary, try a weekend therapy intensive to give you supercharged results that work with your schedule.
